Oxford Harry Potter Tour
Miriam was travelling Europe from the US and visited different locations around the UK. As an enthusiastic Harry Potter fan Miriam wanted to see all the sites around Oxford where Harry Potter was filmed.
She came along to the photoshoot dressed in her green tulle dress (very fitting for a Slytherin fan).
The Bridge of Sighs
We started the Oxford Tour around some of its iconic locations with beautiful architecture. The Bodleian Library features in Harry Potter (the second largest library in the UK!). It is used for Hogwarts library and if you notice the chained book section in the film those books are really like that! The Divinity School is used for the hospital ward when Harry first encounters He Who Shall Not Be Names and it’s used for dance practice with Professor McGonagall before their ball. Unfortunately, when we were there we couldn’t go into The Divinity School because it was closed off for filming! This can happen in Oxford as it’s such a popular film location and there are always so many events going on but luckily there are endless beautiful locations so we always have more than enough choice.
The Malfoy Tree
The famous tree where Mad-Eye Moody turned Draco Malfoy into a ferret! This is within the beautiful quadrangle/ cloisters of the college. A very beautiful olde wolde English college.
Miriam asked if I could photoshop in a wand for her if she did a pose where she looked like she was pointing a wand. This isn’t something I’ve ever done before but I said I shall certainly give it a go! You can see one of them below and I sent her another with green sparkles coming out of the wand to match her dress.
The Cloisters
Walk in the footsteps of wizards! The cloisters used in Harry Potter. Hogwarts was a mix of many filming locations and New College was one of them. The beautiful archways create this dramatic light for some moody atmospheric photos!
The Great Hall
The Great Hall. It is actually Christ Church’s Hall that is the inspiration for The Great Hall in Hogwarts but most of the college halls looks very similar they just differ in size. The have long wooden tables and the walls are filled with traditional portrait paintings. Very atmospheric!
The Gardens
If you’re a fan of the TV series His Dark Materials, New College is used as the location for Lyra’s Jordan College. You can see the famous steps that Lord Asriel lands his airship on!
You can also see the old city wall built in the 1300s!
The gardens are beautiful and make the perfect location for some photos walking around and sitting among the flowers. I always demonstrate posing even the natural walking ones to show you where to start and what to do so all you need to do is copy me when posing!
