Oxford Grad Photo Tour with Soumya
Soumya is from the USA but has been in Oxford with her family whilst she finishes her studies here. We started super early in the morning so no other students were awake and it was really quiet around her College to wander around and take some photos. I even managed to show her some areas such as the cloisters which she hadn’t seen before.
Oxford College Grounds
As well as being full of history, Oxford features in many films and TV series. If you’re a fan of His Dark Materials, Soumya’s College is used as the location for Lyra’s Jordan College. You can see the famous steps below that Lord Asriel lands on!
The gardens are beautiful and make the perfect location for some photos walking around and sitting amoungst the flowers. This is a great way to get started for a portrait photo session as it gives you something to do. I always demonstrate posing even the natural walking ones to show you where to start and what to do so all you need to do is copy me when posing!
The Cloisters
I know most of the colleges’s quite well. We wandered through the courtyard (where there’s a beautiful magnolia tree in the spring) and towards the cloisters which Soumya had never seen before as she studies in a different area. The light is always very moody but is great to create some dramatic images.
Iconic Oxford Tourist Locations
After taking photos around her College we capture some of the iconic Oxford buildings such as the Radcliffe Camera, The Bridge of Sighs , The Bodleian Library and The Divinity School (used in Harry Potter and is the oldest surviving purpose-built University building dating back to the 1400’s.)
We had a lovely morning and it turned out we have the same favourite cafe which we’d individually made plans to head to for lunch without either of us knowing!
Congratulations on being an Oxford Graduate!
