Jenny & Adam’s Autumn Photo Session

Jenny and Adam are engaged and getting married in April and I will have the pleasure of photographing their wedding. They wanted an autumn engagement photoshoot as they’ve never had a professional photoshoot before.

Adam is a musician so he bought along his guitar. As they were new to having their photo taken I wanted to start off with the most natural shots possible. I set up this picnic blanket under this colourful autumn tree. There is a tree stump in front of it which was perfect for Adam to sit on and play guitar. They bought along a flask of tea as well so Jenny could relax with a cuppa.
This way they can have some tea and play guitar rather than think about the camera too much. It’s a good way to start a photoshoot so they feel relaxed and aren’t just stood still staring into a camera which can feel a bit daunting for people at first.

Adam’s lovely deep red guitar matched the autumn colours perfectly!

I always offer some ideas on what to wear for the photoshoot. Jenny and Adam did a fantastic job with choosing their colourful outfits to match the autumn colour palette. I love Jenny’s teal scarf with the mustard coat!

Tree Lined Lane

For the second set I took them for a walk down the tree lined pathway. Again I’m sticking to natural photos so it gives them something to do so they don’t simple focus on the camera. By getting them to have a walk as well it creates movement, energy and often some laughs!

Once we’ve all had time to chat and we’ve taken some fun natural photos I start to move onto some more posed shots as by this point people feel more comfortable.

Engagement Ring

Jenny has a lovely story behind her engagement ring. They decided to design the ring to match her mum’s engagement ring to keep is personal and special to the family (without having to steal her mums ring!). How lovely is that!

Laying Under the Falling Leaves

I placed the picnic blanket under the colourful tree branches for them to lay on the blanket underneath the autumn leaves. This is quite a posed couples photo and this pose comes from my family portrait studio days but I think it creates some really striking photos! When you’re trying this pose on location as well it usually creates some laughs as they try to get comfortable and not get grass up their nose or fall into a rabbit hole! They have a good laugh at me first anyway as I always test it out to show them what to do and to make sure it’s comfortable enough!

To finish I wanted to make the most of the colourful autumn leaves so we just get some couple photos in front of the tree. We were lucky to have this beautiful autumn sunshine come through as well to give it a lovely glowy autumnal feel.

I look forward to seeing them both on their big day to capture some more beautiful memories for them!
